Energy Consumption and Indoor Cultivation Costs Calculator

Indoor plant cultivation is becoming increasingly popular among hobbyists and professionals alike. One of the most critical aspects to consider when planning such cultivation is the cost of electricity. That's why we've created an energy consumption and indoor cultivation cost calculator to help you estimate the expenses associated with lighting and other devices used during plant cultivation.

What contributes to the costs of indoor cultivation?

The costs of indoor plant cultivation include several key elements:

  • Lighting: HPS/MH, CFL, LED lamps - each technology has different energy consumption.
  • Ventilation: Fans and ventilation systems ensure proper air circulation.
  • Climate Control: Heating and cooling systems that maintain the right temperature and humidity.
  • Humidifiers and Dehumidifiers: Maintaining the appropriate humidity levels.
  • Other Devices: Such as water pumps, automatic irrigation systems, etc.

Electricity Costs

One of the largest components of indoor cultivation costs is electricity expenses. To accurately estimate these costs, you need to consider:

  • The nominal power of the lamps used.
  • The number of hours of lighting per day.
  • The number of days of cultivation.
  • The current rate per kW/h.

Example for Poland

Assume you use a 600W HPS lamp that runs for 18 hours a day for 30 days. The current rate per kW/h is 0.60 PLN.

  • Actual power consumption of HPS lamp = 600W * 1.08 (added 8% consumption) = 648W
  • Total energy consumption = 648W * 18 hours/day * 30 days / 1000 = 349.92 kWh
  • Energy cost = 349.92 kWh * 0.60 PLN/kWh = 209.95 PLN

Example for Germany

Assume you use a 400W LED lamp that runs for 12 hours a day for 30 days. The current rate per kW/h is 0.30 EUR.

  • Actual power consumption of LED lamp = 400W
  • Total energy consumption = 400W * 12 hours/day * 30 days / 1000 = 144 kWh
  • Energy cost = 144 kWh * 0.30 EUR/kWh = 43.20 EUR
