How does the AutoPot system work?

The AutoPot system operates on the principle of gravity-fed irrigation. A reservoir containing water and prepared nutrient solution is placed above the level of the pots, allowing the liquid to flow through the system without the need for a pump.

The AQUAvalve is responsible for controlling the water level at each pot. Once the saucer is filled, the valve cuts off the further flow of nutrient solution. The plant gradually absorbs the solution in the pot, and when it is used up, the system allows the pot to be refilled.

Thanks to this design, the roots aren’t constantly flooded with fresh water. Between cycles, they can use the accumulated solution and access oxygen.

The tray is automatically refilled to a level of about 20 mm, so the plant receives water only when it actually needs it.

A system without pumps or electricity

AutoPot differs from many traditional hydroponic systems primarily in how it operates. It does not use a pump to transport the nutrient solution—flow is driven by gravity.

This means there is no pump running around the clock, no power cords, and no controller responsible for watering cycles.

As a result, the solution is relatively simple, and the number of components that may require maintenance or are prone to failure is minimized.

AQUAvalve—the most important component of the system

Each station is equipped with an AQUAvalve, which controls the flow of nutrient solution to the plant tray.

The mechanism automatically:

1. allows water or nutrient solution to

flow

2. into the tray,

4. stops the flow once the appropriate level is reached,

6. enables the plant to utilize the solution in the tray,

8. and reopens the flow after the previous cycle ends.

Therefore, there is no need to set watering times. The system responds mechanically to the liquid level in the tray.

What growing media can be used with AutoPot?

The system is versatile in terms of the growing medium used. It works with both traditional growing media and solutions used in soilless cultivation.

You can use, among other things:

• soil,

• coconut coir,

• rockwool,

• perlite,

• expanded clay,

and

• mixtures of the aforementioned growing media.

The manufacturer recommends using a medium that is sufficiently permeable and well-aerated. One solution is to prepare a mixture in which approximately 50% is the base growing medium and the remaining 50% is a material that improves aeration and drainage, such as perlite or expanded clay.

It is advisable to tailor the mixture to the specific plant species and fertilization method.

FlexiTank 750L

The set includes a flexible AutoPot FlexiTank with a capacity of 750 liters.

This large capacity was chosen with an extensive system comprising 100 stations in mind. However, the actual operating time between refills depends on the plants’ water requirements.

Factors that influence this include:

• the size and number of plants,

• temperature,

• air humidity,

• light intensity,

• growth stage,

• and the type of growing medium.

For this reason, the tank capacity should not be considered a guarantee of a specific number of days of system operation.

Proper Tank Placement

Since AutoPot relies on gravity, it is extremely important to position the reservoir correctly.

The reservoir should be positioned at least about 15 cm above the level of the pots.

This ensures the proper gravitational pressure needed for the nutrient solution to flow correctly through the tubing.

In a system consisting of 100 pots, it is also particularly important to properly route the main tube and the branches leading to the individual growing stations.

Pipe diameters in AutoPot systems

For smaller setups, the manufacturer recommends using smaller-diameter nutrient supply tubing. For systems with 1–7 pots, tubing approximately 6 mm in diameter can be used.

For larger systems with 8 or more pots, it is recommended to use a 16-mm-diameter main tube, which allows for efficient distribution of the nutrient solution to the individual branches.

The kit offered for 100 pots is equipped with a comprehensive 16-mm system, including distribution components.

Protective Mats

Each station in the kit also comes with appropriate mats.

The copper mat helps prevent roots from penetrating the valve area and the water supply system.

The fabric mat serves as an additional component of the system and helps properly prepare the station for the planter.

In large installations, regular inspection of the mats and valves helps ensure the proper functioning of the entire system.

Operation and Fertilization

Once the AutoPot is up and running, it does not require daily manual watering; however, the reservoir should be checked and refilled regularly.

Water can be added to the reservoir along with a properly prepared nutrient solution designed for the plants being grown.

When fertilizing, it is best to choose products that are highly water-soluble and suitable for automatic irrigation systems. Excessive amounts of thick or sediment-forming additives can increase the risk of sediment buildup in the pipes and valves.

The parameters of the prepared nutrient solution should be adjusted to the requirements of the specific plant, the growing medium used, and the stage of cultivation.

Flexible installation layout

The kit does not impose a single specific layout for all 100 pots. Individual modules can be arranged according to the available space and the layout of the room, greenhouse, or other growing area.

The 16 mm main tubing distributes the nutrient solution from the reservoir, and then, using appropriate tees and branch lines, it is fed to subsequent AutoPot modules.

Note: The 16 mm tubing is cut from 30-meter rolls. For this reason, the 50 meters of 16 mm tubing included in the kit is supplied in two sections.

• the reservoir size must be appropriate for the number of plants and their water requirements,
