Biovita expandedclay is a product commonly used in horticulture, plant cultivation and construction. It is a lightweight aggregate, formed from natural clay fired at high temperatures, which causes it to swell and give it a porous structure. Biovita brand expanded clay is characterized by high water absorption, which makes it an ideal medium for improving drainage in pots and horticultural substrates. In addition, it is chemically inert and does not change the reaction of the soil, so it can be used in a wide range of crops.

Applications of Biovita expanded clay:

  • Improving drainage in pots and balcony boxes.
  • Drainage layer on the bottom of pots, which prevents root rot.
  • Addition to the substrate to improve its airiness and structure.
  • Hydroponics - expanded clay is an excellent medium for soilless cultivation.
  • Mulching - protection of soil from drying out and weed growth
  • .

Thanks to its durability and neutrality, Biovita expanded clay is repeatedly used in crops, making it an ecological and economical solution for gardeners and growers.

Biovita AGRO GARDEN EXPANDED CLAY 8–16 MM 2L – expanded clay for drainage, growing media, and mulching

Biovita’s Agro Gardening Expanded Clay is a natural, lightweight ceramic aggregate produced by firing clay at high temperatures. The characteristic porous structure of the granules helps improve soil structure, increases airflow to the root system, and promotes the drainage of excess moisture.

The 8–16 mm size is ideal for creating a drainage layer in pots, balcony planters, and larger containers. Expanded clay can also be added directly to the growing medium or used on its surface as a durable and attractive mulch.

Key Properties

  • made from natural, fired clay,
  • 8–16 mm granulation,
  • increases soil permeability,
  • promotes aeration of the root zone,
  • facilitates drainage of excess water,
  • reduces excessive soil compaction,
  • helps reduce moisture loss from the soil surface,
  • may reduce weed growth,
  • resistant to mold, fungi, insects, and rodents,
  • chemically neutral and safe for plants,
  • durable and suitable for reuse,
  • can be used in organic farming.

Where can Biovita expanded clay be used?

The product has a wide range of applications in gardening and plant cultivation. It is suitable, among other things, for:

  • for drainage in pots and containers,
  • as an additive to improve soil properties,
  • for ornamental and vegetable plants,
  • when transplanting and planting shrubs and trees,
  • when preparing soil for lawns,
  • for mulching the soil surface,
  • in hydroponic systems and soilless cultivation,
  • when constructing green roofs,
  • as a decorative finish for planters and flower beds.

Expanded clay for drainage in planters

Placing expanded clay at the bottom of a container creates a layer that facilitates the drainage of excess water and improves aeration around the roots. This solution is particularly useful for plants that do not tolerate overly wet soil, as well as when growing plants in large pots, planters, or garden containers.

Expanded clay as a growing medium component

The pellets can be mixed with soil to increase its permeability and prevent the growing medium from compacting. A looser structure facilitates oxygen access to the roots and allows for more efficient drainage of excess moisture.

The amount of expanded clay added should be adjusted according to the type of growing medium and the specific needs of the plant.

Expanded clay for mulching

Expanded clay spread over the soil surface creates an attractive and durable protective layer. It can reduce water evaporation, inhibit weed growth, and protect the soil surface from direct exposure to the elements.

Unlike organic mulches, expanded clay does not decompose quickly, so it can be used for many seasons.

Directions for Use

Drainage: Place an appropriate layer of expanded clay at the bottom of a pot or container, then add the appropriate growing medium.

Mixing with soil: Add expanded clay to the soil and mix thoroughly. Adjust the amount based on the required soil permeability.

Mulching: Spread an even layer of granules over the soil surface around the plants.

Hydroponics: Before using expanded clay in hydroponic systems, rinse the granules thoroughly with clean water.
