BioTabs dosage works differently from traditional mineral feeding programmes. Instead of adding several liquid nutrients at every watering, the BioTabs system is based mainly on preparing the growing medium correctly, using beneficial microorganisms, slow-release nutrient tablets and organic supplements that support the root zone.

The charts above show the BioTabs feeding schedule and the recommended use of the main products in the system. This guide explains how to read the programme, when to use BioTabs, Startrex, Mycotrex, Bactrex, Orgatrex and other additives, and what to pay attention to throughout the growing cycle.

Important: BioTabs is an organic substrate feeding system. In many cases, it eliminates the need to prepare a strong nutrient solution at every watering. The key is correct substrate preparation and maintaining an active microbial environment around the roots.

How does the BioTabs system work?

BioTabs is an organic nutrient system based on the cooperation between organic fertilisers and microorganisms living in the growing medium. Instead of relying only on readily soluble mineral salts, the system creates a biologically active root zone where microorganisms help break down organic matter and make nutrients available to plants.

The system uses, among other things:

  • slow-release nutrient tablets,
  • mycorrhizal fungi,
  • beneficial soil bacteria,
  • organic nutrient sources,
  • root-support products,
  • flowering supplements.

Once the growing medium has been prepared correctly, a large part of the feeding process takes place directly in the substrate without the need to mix several fertilisers at every watering.

How to read the BioTabs feeding chart

The BioTabs feeding chart shows not only how much of each product to use, but also when to apply it. This is important because some products are used only when preparing the substrate, others during transplanting, and some later through irrigation water.

The programme can be divided into several stages:

  1. preparing the growing medium,
  2. inoculating the root zone with beneficial microorganisms,
  3. placing BioTabs tablets in the substrate,
  4. watering and activating the biological system,
  5. supplementing nutrients later in the cycle,
  6. supporting the flowering phase.

Main BioTabs products

BioTabs

The slow-release nutrient tablets are one of the central elements of the system. They are placed directly in the growing medium, where nutrients are gradually made available over time.

Startrex

An organic substrate additive mixed into the growing medium before planting or transplanting. It provides organic matter and supports microbial activity.

Mycotrex

A product containing mycorrhizal fungi. It should be applied as close as possible to the root zone to encourage effective colonisation.

Bactrex

Bactrex contains beneficial microorganisms and other ingredients designed to support biological activity in the growing medium.

Orgatrex

A liquid organic fertiliser used as an additional nutrient source within the BioTabs programme.

Bio PK

An organic flowering supplement used mainly during the bloom phase.

Startrex – how to use it

Startrex is used when preparing the growing medium. It should be mixed thoroughly into soil or coco before transplanting.

Its role is to increase the organic content of the substrate and create a favourable environment for microbial life.

Startrex is not a typical fast-acting mineral fertiliser. It is part of the biological nutrient system built around the root zone.

Mycotrex dosage and use

Mycotrex should be placed as close to the roots as possible. It is usually applied in the transplanting hole or directly around the root ball.

Mycorrhizal fungi grow together with the root system and can increase the effective area through which the plant takes up water and nutrients.

Tip: Mycotrex is most effective when placed directly in the root zone rather than scattered randomly over the entire surface of the pot.

Bactrex dosage and use

Bactrex is used to introduce beneficial microorganisms into the substrate. It is commonly applied after transplanting as a watering solution according to the manufacturer's feeding schedule.

The product helps establish bacterial life in the root zone and supports the biological processes on which the BioTabs system depends.

A freshly prepared Bactrex solution should ideally be used promptly rather than stored for a long period.

How many BioTabs per pot?

The number of BioTabs tablets depends mainly on the size of the pot and the volume of growing medium. The tablets are usually placed several centimetres below the surface, close to the root zone but not directly against the stem.

Larger containers require more tablets. The final number should always be matched to the manufacturer's feeding schedule and the actual pot volume.

Because the tablets gradually release nutrients in the substrate, there is no need to provide the full base feed through irrigation water at every watering.

Orgatrex dosage

Orgatrex is a liquid organic fertiliser used to supplement the BioTabs system. It can be used during activation of the substrate and later in the cycle according to the feeding programme.

Unlike purely mineral fertilisers, its effectiveness is closely connected with the activity of microorganisms in the growing medium.

For this reason, the biological condition of the substrate matters just as much as the actual Orgatrex dosage.

Bio PK during flowering

Bio PK is designed mainly for the flowering phase. It supplements the nutrient programme when the nutritional requirements of the plant change.

Dosage should follow the BioTabs chart and be adapted to the actual stage of plant development.

As with other organic feeding systems, using more than recommended does not automatically produce better results.

How to water when using BioTabs

One of the main advantages of BioTabs is simplified watering. Once the substrate has been prepared correctly, a large part of the basic nutrition is already present in the root zone.

Depending on the stage of the programme, many waterings can therefore be carried out mainly with water, while specific supplements are added only at certain times.

Good watering practice includes:

  • avoiding constantly waterlogged substrate,
  • allowing oxygen to reach the root zone,
  • not leaving biologically active substrate completely dry for extended periods,
  • adjusting water volume to plant and pot size,
  • avoiding unnecessary aggressive disinfectants in the root zone.

Do you need to measure pH and EC with BioTabs?

BioTabs works differently from a conventional mineral nutrient programme. In a healthy, biologically active substrate, microorganisms help regulate nutrient availability.

For this reason, EC does not play exactly the same role as it does with mineral fertilisers. Measuring the EC of the irrigation solution does not always provide a complete picture of what is happening in an organic growing medium.

Water pH can still be important, especially when the source water is unusually acidic or alkaline. However, aggressive pH correction should not be overused because it can affect microbial activity.

BioTabs and EC: do not manage an organic substrate exactly like a mineral hydroponic nutrient solution. EC is especially useful with mineral feeding, where dissolved salt concentration is directly linked to nutrient strength.

BioTabs in soil and coco

BioTabs in soil

Soil is a very suitable growing medium for the BioTabs system. A good-quality organic substrate can work together with beneficial microorganisms to create a stable and biologically active root zone.

When using heavily pre-fertilised soil, remember that the substrate already contains nutrients and this should be taken into account.

BioTabs in coco

BioTabs can also be used in coco, provided that the medium is prepared correctly. Microbial activity and stable root-zone moisture become especially important.

When used with BioTabs, coco should be treated more like a biologically active medium than a conventional high-drain mineral fertigation system.

Common mistakes when using BioTabs

1. Treating BioTabs like mineral fertiliser

The system is not based on adding increasingly large amounts of fertiliser at every watering. Correct substrate preparation is the foundation of the programme.

2. Ignoring microorganisms

Mycotrex and Bactrex are not optional extras in the biological sense. Microorganisms are one of the key elements of the system.

3. Overwatering

Constantly wet substrate contains less oxygen and may negatively affect both roots and microbial life.

4. Using too many tablets

More fertiliser does not automatically mean better growth. The number of BioTabs should be matched to the volume of the pot.

5. Using strong disinfectants

Products designed to kill bacteria and fungi can also damage beneficial microorganisms that the BioTabs system relies on.

6. Constantly correcting pH without need

In a biological system, every small pH fluctuation does not have to be treated in the same way as in mineral hydroponics.

7. Adding too many extra fertilisers

A complete BioTabs programme already supplies a large proportion of the required nutrition. Adding too many other products can lead to overfeeding.

BioTabs – simplified application programme

  1. prepare the growing medium,
  2. mix Startrex into the substrate,
  3. apply Mycotrex close to the future root zone,
  4. transplant the plant,
  5. insert the correct number of BioTabs tablets,
  6. activate the root zone with Bactrex,
  7. water according to plant demand,
  8. use Orgatrex according to the programme,
  9. introduce flowering supplements at the appropriate stage.

FAQ – BioTabs dosage

How do you dose BioTabs?

BioTabs dosage depends on the size of the pot and the chosen programme. The tablets are inserted directly into the substrate, while products such as Startrex, Mycotrex, Bactrex and Orgatrex are used at specific stages shown in the manufacturer's chart.

How many BioTabs should I use per pot?

The number depends on the volume of the growing medium. Larger pots generally require more tablets. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

How deep should BioTabs be placed?

The tablets are placed several centimetres below the surface in the future root zone. They do not need to be positioned directly against the stem.

Do you use BioTabs at every watering?

No. One of the main characteristics of the system is that the base nutrition is already present in the substrate. Liquid supplements are used according to the feeding programme and not necessarily at every watering.

Can I water with plain water when using BioTabs?

Yes. Once the substrate has been prepared correctly, many waterings can be done with plain water. Specific supplements are added at the stages defined by the BioTabs programme.

Can BioTabs be used in soil?

Yes. BioTabs works very well in soil and other biologically active organic substrates.

Can BioTabs be used in coco?

Yes. BioTabs can also be used in coco, provided the medium is correctly prepared and a healthy microbial environment is maintained in the root zone.

Do I need to measure EC with BioTabs?

EC is less important than in a conventional mineral feeding programme. In organic systems, much of the nutrition is stored in the substrate and made available through microbial activity.

Do I need to adjust pH with BioTabs?

With normal-quality water, intensive pH correction is often unnecessary. If the source water is unusually acidic or alkaline, some adjustment may be useful, but excessive use of strong pH regulators should be avoided.

What is Mycotrex?

Mycotrex is a mycorrhizal product for the root zone. The fungi form a symbiotic relationship with plant roots and increase their effective absorption area.

What is Bactrex?

Bactrex contains beneficial microorganisms used to colonise the growing medium and support biological processes in the root zone.

What is Orgatrex used for?

Orgatrex is a liquid organic fertiliser that forms part of the BioTabs system. It provides nutrients and supports biologically active substrate.

Can BioTabs be combined with other fertilisers?

Some compatible products can be used, but caution is recommended. A full BioTabs programme already supplies much of the required nutrition, so adding too many extra fertilisers may lead to overfeeding.

Why is BioTabs different from mineral fertilisers?

Mineral fertilisers provide nutrients mainly as readily soluble salts. BioTabs relies more heavily on organic matter, microorganisms and biological processes taking place in the growing medium.

BioTabs dosage – summary

The BioTabs feeding chart describes a complete organic feeding system that differs significantly from conventional mineral nutrient programmes. The foundation is correct substrate preparation and the creation of a biologically active root zone.

Startrex prepares the growing medium, Mycotrex supplies mycorrhizal fungi, Bactrex introduces beneficial microorganisms, BioTabs tablets gradually release nutrients, and Orgatrex together with other supplements completes the programme during later stages.

The most important factors are following the programme, watering appropriately and avoiding excessive feeding. In a well-managed BioTabs system, a large part of plant nutrition takes place directly in the substrate.
